RM of Snipe Lake’s story
The Rural Municipality of Snipe Lake No. 259 incorporated on December 11, 1911. It lies in southwestern Saskatchewan and surrounds the town of Eston, where the RM's office is located.
Over the years the municipality has been home to a number of small communities. Plato and Richlea were once villages; Richlea dissolved as a village on December 31, 1958, and Plato followed on March 28, 1995. Other localities within the RM include Bickleigh, Isham, McMorran, Penkill, Snipe Lake, Totnes and Witley.
Today one of the best-known spots in the RM is Eston Riverside Regional Park, on the north bank of the South Saskatchewan River about 21 kilometres south of Eston. It offers a campground, cabins, ball diamonds, an outdoor swimming pool, river access and a 9-hole golf course with a licensed clubhouse.
